Barrel lamps from New Duivendrecht Shine Bright
The Barrel Lamp and Baby Barrel Lamp are modeled after old WWII headlamps, but their style is decidedly modern. Made of wood, concrete and steel, the lines are smooth yet sturdy. The lights were designed by Nieuwe Heren for the Dutch design group New Duivendrecht. Made from the searchlights of history, they created a model that fits easily into today’s lifestyle. The wooden slats and the entire shape direct the light, while the spaces between the slats produce a warm light at the edges. They remind us of the glory days of Hollywood and the spotlights with which a film premiere was announced in the heyday of the film. The tripod on which the running lamp sits is made of cement for a stable base and can be positioned in two directions. While the lamp is enough of a statement (either size!) Enough to stand alone, would not they look good in a group? Maybe all pointed to a spectacular artwork in a loft apartment? Everything old is new again.
These lamps cast an interesting light.
