Combination of ice and light: Frozen Lamp by Lavsit
Turning a liquid material into a solid object is what glass is all about. And what an ice cream is. There we have it – Frozen Lamp. Designed by Maxim Velcovsky for lavsit, it perfectly catches the moment when the solid becomes liquid – and vice versa. Does not this hanging lamp look like it’s made of ice, which is only a fraction of a second away from melting? Available in two sizes, you can hang them as individual pieces, you can combine equal parts along a breakfast bar – or you can combine in group light. The thickness of the glass is enough to soften the light, and that’s something you do not always see in sculptural glass lamps. Each piece is unique, individually mouth-blown. The technique results in different textures, different strengths, a different light scattering of each piece. As all glassblowers understand, there comes a moment when you need to “freeze” your design in time – let the melted liquid solidify. Velcovksy really mastered this moment with his new Frozen Lamp.
